NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) was chartered to expand the knowledge of earth and its environment, the solar system, and the universe through observations from space. As the nation’s largest organization of scientists, engineers, and technologists, the GSFC has a primary focus on scientific investigation in the development and operation of space systems, and in the advancement of essential technologies.
The Telophase team links arms with the GSFC in its vast responsibility of theoretical and experimental scientific research in the study of space phenomena and Earth Sciences. We too want to advance our space efforts, because letting endless possibilities go untapped simply isn’t how we operate.
Our Services Provide Real Solutions
Telophase’s extensive partnership with NASA GSFC has been filled with accomplishments. These are some we’re especially proud of:
Governance, risk and compliance, security assessment and authorization, security engineering, and security training were on the long list of necessary accomplishments for GSFC. Telophase’s extensive experience in FISMA mandated Assessment and Authorization, and NIST security guidelines, helped GSFC become the first NASA center to deploy Continuous Monitoring. By following NIST SP 800-137 guidelines, Telophase developed a model that was presented to all Goddard directorates as a model for success.
Through our partnership, GSFC developed a governance and risk management strategy to help adapt to change, manage risk, and effectively comply with regulations. Our outside-in perspectives on assessment process have allowed the GSFC to exceed the targeted goal of 20 assessments within a year to 50. This increase was five-fold to meet the FISMA compliancy mandate and today we continue to refine our approach for continued success.
The GSFC needed a partner to support the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of environmental test equipment and facilities. Our engineers stepped in to help with mechanical and optical integration of spacecraft, flight experiment components, instruments, sub-assemblies, and systems for missions. Beyond support we design, fabricate, and manufacture custom spacecraft, flight experiment components, instruments, sub-assemblies and systems such as optical alignment and calibration systems, and space flight thermal blankets to ensure advancement of our space program. With safety always at the forefront, Telophase staff is also there to check quality through recertification of lifting devices, equipment, and of pressure vessels and pressurized systems.
Telophase developed the Mirador test spider to ascertain that dataset granules are accessible through website and FTP downloads. With randomized application queries, operations staff are able to identify and correct anomalies in real time. As the primary public search and distribution utility for the Goddard Earth Sciences Data Information Sciences Center, this creates a more nimble environment in data production and archiving. Telophase continues these efforts through implementation of semantic web technology development in the existing application.
The success of NASA missions and stakeholders depends on the software and infrastructure in a highly-virtualized environment. Telophase works with GSFC to provide enterprise IT support from security to systems administration across multiple divisions. In this effort, we have prepared the organization for CMMI appraisals, deployed process assets and tools, created an organizational measurement program, and more.
GSFC’s Office of Education needed programmatic coordination and support for a variety of audiences including professional development to fellowship programs. Telophase has been intertwined with molding the greatest scientific minds of today and beyond. To reinforce this effort, the partnership has worked on STEM engagement projects that promote minority, underrepresented, and underserved participation in education programs so that no brilliant person is left behind.
